A group of 150 students from Saraswati college of Engineering, Kharghar visited IIG. The visitors were students of civil engineering and they were acquainted with the basics of geomagnetism. They were also interested to know about the functions and workings of GPS.

Since they have a civil engineering background Praveen Gawali talked on engineering geology. They were also exposed to rock and mineral specimen, wherein our research scholar Siyon explained the basics of their formation and uses. She also explained the geotectonic information contained within the specimen that had a bearing on plate tectonics, continental movement and geomagnetic excursions, polar wandering, magnetic reversals and changing magnetic field intensity of earth.

The students experienced other related activities carried out at IIG, which were explained to them through posters and models. The highlight was their lab visits.

This activity was held under the aegis of India International Science Festival – 2018 (IISF-2018) and was aimed at instilling scientific temper and arousing curiosity in the young minds.
