Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) is situated near the Mumbai-Pune National Highway in New Panvel, which is one of the 14 “nodes” or small townships consisting the newly developed metropolis called Navi Mumbai (New Mumbai). Initially being a strip of marshy land lying between village Dighe in Thane district and Kalundre village of Raigad district, Navi Mumbai has been developed as a planned city, a counter magnet for Mumbai to reduce its mass exodus. Situating parallel to the greater Mumbai, it has developed into an independent, fully self-contained metro city which can be viewed as a potential future business capital of India. Navi Mumbai is well connected to Mumbai by suburban railways and city and state bus services. Mumbai, being the “Economical Capital of India” is well-connected to the major cities of India and abroad.

The nearest suburban railway station is Khandeswar which is 2 km from the institute. To view the location of the institute click here.
