Academic Record:

  • M. Sc. (1975) and Ph. D. (1999) (Geophysics) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi

Honours

  • He is life fellow of Indian geophysical Union and associate member of SEG, USA. He is also a life member of SPG, India and AEG, Hyderabad.
He is awarded ONGC-AEG best Ph. D. thesis award in exploration geophysics. He is also adjunct professor at the school of earth science,
SRTM University, Nanded, Maharashtra. He is also executive committee member of National Mineral Exploration Trust, Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India.
He is also a member of standing committee on M. Tech. Projects, AMD Hyderabad.

Research Experience:

  • Thirty nine years of research experience in exploration geophysics with emphasis on gravity and magnetic studies related to mineral and hydrocarbon exploration, crust and upper mantle structures from long wavelength gravity field studies and vertical crustal deformation for earthquake precursor studies. Extensive geophysical surveys for the exploration of kimberlites in the soil cover region of Eastern Dharwar craton under UNDP program. Gravity and magnetic surveys over the Deccan volcanic province of northwest and central India for the delineation of sub-trappean Mesozoic sediments for the exploration of hydrocarbon. Coordinated extensive gravity-magnetic surveys in frontier basins of India for the exploration of hydrocarbons sponsored by oil industries. High resolution gravity-magnetic surveys for detection and delineation of manganese minerals in Sausar fold belt, central India.

Accomplishments:

  • Dr. Singh has made the most outstanding contributions in the area of potential field modeling. He has derived a new relationship between gravity and magnetic (G-M) fields caused due to an arbitrary 3D object which facilitated construction of a unified algorithm for simultaneous computation of G-M fields. He was the coordinator for the publication of new gravity map series of India-2006.

Present interest:

  • Study of long wavelength gravity anomalies of the Indian subcontinent: an insight on upper mantle density structures and its geodynamic implications

Institutional affiliation:

  • (Oct. 1975- Dec. 1977): Junior Research Fellow, CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad
  • (Jan. 1978- Nov. 1982): Scientific Officer, Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Hyderabad
  • (Dec. 1983-Nov. 2015): Scientist (Retired as Chief Scientist), CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad
