The Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, paid a visit to the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism in New Panvel on March 8th, 2024. Prof. A.P. Dimri, the Director of IIG, extended a warm welcome to Prof. Karandikar.
During the visit, Prof. Karandikar inaugurated the Magnetic Sensor Lab and the High-Performance Computer Facility at IIG, followed by a tree plantation program. The Director of IIG provided an overview of the institute's research activities and their potential societal applications. Prof. Karandikar engaged in discussions with IIG scientists and staff, and also attended a poster session showcasing the research work of Research Scholars and Associates. Furthermore, he toured the advanced environmental lab and computer fluid dynamics labs of IIG. In his address to the staff, Prof. Karandikar emphasized the need to integrate the research carried out at different national institutes for the benefit of the society.
