Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) is a premier institute of the Department of Science & Technology engaged in fundamental research in Geomagnetism and its allied fields. The Institute has been able to attract young and rich scientific talent for carrying out research. To further enrich and create scientific talent in a variety of scientific disciplines in this Institute, a new Postdoctoral Research Fellowship "Nanabhoy Moos Research Fellowship (NMRF)" has been introduced.Guidelines :
Application period : Applications to the fellowship are received throughout the year. Selections will be made as and when sufficient number of applications is received.

Eligibility:Ph.D. Degree in Geomagnetism/Solid Earth Geophysics/Space Weather/ Modelling of Sun-Earth interaction / Climatic Science. Candidates who have submitted their thesis or those who are about to submit their thesis can also apply but their selection will be subject to the condition that they would have received Ph.D degree before the expiry of the validity of the award offer. Candidate must be a citizen/permanent resident of India and should not hold any permanent position/employment.

Desirable :Applicants should have proven excellence by way of research publications in high impact factor peer reviewed SCI journals. Preference will be given to the candidates having minimum one year of research experience in a reputed institution other than the institution from where the candidate has done his/her doctorate.Age Limit :Upper age limit is 32 years that is relaxable up to 3 years in case of OBC and up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/Woman/Physically challenged candidates.

Tenure of Fellowship :Two years. Further extension for a maximum period of one year may be granted to the NMR fellows based on their outstanding performance, recommendations by External Review Committee and Approval of Director, IIG.

Place of Work:Candidate may choose to work at any of the following centres of IIG:
Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Navi Mumbai, New Panvel (Head office)
Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, KSKGRL, Allahabad, (Regional centre)
Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, EGRL, Tirunelveli, (Regional centre)
Instructions for submitting the Applications:
Research Proposal :Candidate can choose to work under the supervision of experts working in the host institution i.e IIG. The chosen expert should be a permanent employee of IIG and should have relevant experience in the field of proposed research project (Letter of acceptance from host researcher is mandatory). Candidate can also choose to work independently on the proposed research problem. The details of the scientists/experts working in IIG can be obtained from www.iigm.res.in. Candidate should strictly follow the format for submission of the Research Proposal. Research Proposal should not exceed three pages (Font size 12, Times New Roman).


Guidelines for Nanabhai Moos Postdoctoral Fellowship (NMRF) Program

  1. Candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in an area of research pursued in IIG or proof of viva-voce at the time of submission of an application.
  2.  At least two publications in peer reviewed journals as first author.
  3. Average impact factor of the publications in peer reviewed journals published as first author must be at least 2.
  4. The research areas to be pursued under postdoctoral research at IIG should be directly relevant to the research activities of IIG. The applications should include detailed research plan, name of the proposed collaborator at IIG, complete CV including list of publications etc.
  5. Two-step process is followed for the selection. The eligible applications will be screened by an internal committee and the final selection through an expert committee. Each shortlisted candidate will make a presentation of the proposed research project before a committee consisting of external and internal experts, followed by an interview/discussion with the committee. 
  6. Applications to Moos fellowship are received throughout the year. However, selections will be made once in every 6 months when sufficient number of applications is received.
  7. Upper age limit is 32 years that is relaxable up to 3 years in case of OBC and up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/Woman/Physically challenged candidates.
  8. Selected candidate will get a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 75,000 per month. The Moos Fellows are also eligible for accommodation, subject to the availability and as per IIG policy. If accommodation is not provided, HRA will be paid as applicable. In addition to the fellowship, a contingency grant of Rs.3.00 lakhs per annum may be provided to facilitate his/her research.
